Page Speed available for Google Chrome

Finally Page Speed is available for Google Chrome. Web developers and designers were used to test the site on Firefox as that has capability to run YSlow and Page Speed. YSlow is a tool by Yahoo and Page Speed is by Google to test the load time and performance of a webpage. Now it is a well known fact that Google consider the page load time in providing the PageRank, so it is important to keep an eye on the website load time and issues. Few days ago, Google Chrome got YSlow extension and now Page Speed. Mozilla Firefox is definitely going to face a good competition from Chrome even after releasing a refreshed and powerful version i.e. Firefox 4.

First of all Google team had released the Page Speed SDK and finally they have released the extension for Google Chrome. Page Speed is not available on Chrome Extension gallery but there is another was to install the same.

First of all you need to enable “Experimental Extension APIs” flag in Chrome. To do so, type “about:flags” in the chrome address bar (without quotes). Find “Experimental Extension APIs” option and click on “Enable” link. On the bottom of the same page, click on “Relaunch Now” button to restart the browser.

Now go to this page and there you will find “Click here to install Page Speed for Chrome”. In fact, that page is also having the above instructions to install Page Speed.

Once the installation is complete, open the web page for which you want to run Page Speed test on Chrome. Go to the settings option on the browser and Tools ==> Developer Tools. Now you can see “Page Speed” icon on the right most of the navigation on Developer Tool window. Click on that and then click on “Run Page Speed”. That’s it, now you will get all the test results of Page Speed on Chrome window similar to the Firefox test.
