Download or Auto Upgrade to WordPress 2.9 (Carmen)

Few days back, We had reported the released of WordPress 2.9 RC1 and finally the stable version of WordPress as 2.9 is here. This new version is named as “Carmen” in honor of Jazz vocalist Carmen McRae. As per the release note from Matt,

WordPress 2.9 provides the smoothest ride yet because of a number of improvements under the hood and more subtle improvements you’ll begin to appreciate once you’ve been around the block a few times.

wordpressAnd I totally agree with Matt because the features added in WordPress 2.9 are really awesome. There are some optimizations done in this version which will reduce the server load as well. You can upgrade your current WordPress version to WordPress 2.9 by clicking on he “Auto Upgrade” button appearing on your Dashboard’s top area. Or you can download the latest version and replace the files with that. Below is the link to download WordPress 2.9.

You can follow the below path as well to Auto-Upgrade your WordPress version,

Tools ==> Upgrade

Download WordPress 2.9 (Stable)

  • I must say I was overly happy when my dashboard said, WordPress 2.9 is available.

    I tried auto-upgrade and got the following error message.

    Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 20185088) (tried to allocate 2515438 bytes) in /home2/virtualp/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1325

    I tried after disabling all plugins, retried after raising the bar on memory after reading thousands of blog posts on this error, tried the instructions given by my web host support. But still the problem remains the same.

    I have hyper cache installed (after testing db-cache, wp-super cache and w3 total cache). I am not sure if that has something to do with the upgrade.

  • Hi Yohan,
    Here is the solution for your problem. Please go thru the article and increase the memory limit thru wp-config.php file.

    Let me know whether your problem resolved. Thanks

  • Thanks for your concern Sanjeev. I tried many solutions including yours. But nothing works. May be the latter is true. It’s something to do with the web host. I am checking with them right now. I will let you know if I could find anything.
