AWN 0.4 Beta New Features to Change the Look of Dock on Ubuntu Linux

AWN (Avant Window Navigator) is a software to create a window launcher or navigation at the bottom of the Linux Screen. Now AWN 0.4 beta is here for testing where you can see lot many new features including positioning of launcher dock and much more. First of all we will check different styles added in 0.4 for Windows launcher Dock.

Positioning of Dock

Now you can change the position of Dock thru AWN 0.4. You can place the dock vertically on left or right side of the screen or you can place the launcher on the top of the screen (horizontally).

Installation of AWN 0.4

For installing AWN 0.4 on your Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.01, you can add the PPA of AWN on your Software Package Source. To do that, Go to the System ==> Administration ==> Software Sources, and enter your password. Now add the below PPA link in Other Software tab, so that you will have the updated AWN on your Ubuntu System.

Now Install AWN from the “Synaptic Package Manager” option under System ==> Administration.

Error Message as “Warning: Screen isn’t composited “

If the visual Effects or Drivers are not properly installed on your Ubuntu System, you may face the issue and get error message as “Warning: Screen isn’t composited. Please run compiz (-fusion) or another compositing manager ”. Below is the solution for the same.

If you are getting the error message as “Warning: Screen isn’t composited. Please run compiz (-fusion) or another compositing manager“ after executing the application “Avant Window Navigator” then you will have to change the “Visual Effects” option from Appearance Preferences. Right click on the screen and select “Change Desktop Background“ from the menu. Now go to the “ Visual Effects” tab and change the option from “None” to Normal / Extra. Now try to run the AWN from Applications / Accessories. Here is the screenshot for the same,
