3G Service at Mount Everest

Nepali Telecom service provider Ncell launched 3G service at the base camp of World’s tallest mountain or highest point i.e. Mount Everest. The base camp is at the altitude of 5,300 meters (17,388 feet) where as the height of Mount Everest is 8,850 meters (29,035 feet) from sea level. Before this kind of 3G services, climbers were used to use satellite phones for communication which is still valid when they will start climbing from the base camp. But at the base camp, they can surf web, enjoy unlimited internet at their finger point.

Mobile services are also there at Mount Everest since 2009, but now climbers can enjoy 3G facilities.

According to Ncell chief Pasi Koistinen,

 

Today, we made the world’s highest video call from Mount Everest

In this statement, he was referring to the vide call made on 3G from Mount Everest base camp from where climbers start climbing to the Mount Everest. Hope to get more video clips and Twitter/Facebook updates from Mount Everest base camp.
