Contact form is the most common way of communication on blogs where visitors asks their questions or provide feedback by filling up a form. Those details appear in your inbox and then you reply to them. Very simple but effective way of communication. But if you are a new professional blogger and wanted to add some value to the contact form on your blog by providing real time access to you for visitors then go for Skype or GTalk status buttons on contact form.
Skype and GTalk uses Voice on Internet (VOIP) for real time communication and the most important thing is that they are free. If you work for 10 to 12 hrs a day and you are online for most of the time then show that status on your contact form so that visitors can contact you in that way as well. If you are serious about making social network for social sharing then go ahead and add Online Status on your blog.
I added Skype and GTalk on my blog’s contact form and got benefited in several ways. Some of them are,
1. Made new friends for social networking
2. Visitor contacted us thru Skype and then we discussed about issues on their blog
3. New bloggers keep coming to your blog to see whether you are online (just curious)
4. Live chat for social sharing like StumbleUpon, Digg etc
If you feel that you are getting disturbed by so many calls and chat links then change the status as per your choice. Sometimes I change the status as “Writing an important post”, which directly passes a message to the visitor.
To get a Skype status button for your website or blog, go to the Get Skype Button page of Skype and enter your Skype ID to generate the code. You can select from the list of different Skype images to show on your blog. Once the script will be generated, just paste that on your blog template to get the button.
Troubleshooting: If you Skype status is not showing correctly on the Skype button then check the “Privacy Setting” of your Skype account. Go to the Skype application on your desktop and click on the Tools menu. Go to the Options and then Privacy Settings. Enable the option of showing Skype status on web.
GTalk is another Voice on Internet application and you can add the status of your GTalk account by generating the code from here. Get the code based on your account and then you can add the button to chat/talk with guests on your blog.
There are lot many ways to improve the contact media on blogs and Skype – GTalk voice on Internet is one of them. If you are having some other way of improving traditional contact forms then share it with us.
