Notes from the developer within

1. After upgrading to this new version, please clear the cache from your plugins like WP-SuperCache or others.

2. Please note there some changes made to navigation on the settings page, to make the page compact and easy to navigate.

3. Some icons are totally designed by us, as they were not available in any of the icon packs (hope you like them!)

4. The plugin package would feel heavy to some of us, due to size of the folder. But believe me, the size is of various sprite options, i.e 16 x 16, 24 x 24 and 32 x 32. When you would select one, only one of the six sprite and the corresponding CSS is going to load on the webpage, all others will only remain in the plugin folder.

This is a very useful plugin. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I will be adding this to one of my sites in the very near future.

    Hi Tejaswini,

at first thank you for developing this plugin :)

One little request for the next release:
Would be cool if one could set the left margin. (I don’t like thinks to stick exactly at the border and would add a few pixel to it.

    Greetings from Germany,
    Knut

    • Tejaswini says:

@Knut Sorry for the late response, was a bit busy with another Wordpress Plugin development – Instant Weekly Roundup. Thanks for the suggestion, left margin is perfectly a necessary option and I would definitely include it in the next upgrade. Hope to see you more on Internet Techies.

      • Geordie says:

        Hi Tejaswini,

Great plugin, I’m just starting up with wordpress and I think this will be really useful. I also would appreciate a margin setting.

Above all though, I would love to be able to add custom links/icons into the bar. Specifically these would be bandcamp (theliarschair.bandcamp.com) and Triple J Unearthed (Australian radio website) (www.triplejunearthed.com.au/theliarschair). I could code this manually but then if I’m not careful I’d lose my work if I updated the plugin. Do you have any plan of implementing something like this?

        Cheers

  5. Mathias says:

    Hi!

Very cool Plugin, thanks for the work. Hope you also will implement “posterous”.

    C´ya

  6. Marco says:

    Great work ..

Could you please add the yiid profile too?

    Thanks a lot
    Marco

  7. hi guys, great work, thanks for the plugin.

I second Brandon: it will be great to be able to add (a 2nd column of?) personal gif/png’s. Also maybe some designer could add new icons for: My Portfolio, My Amazon wishlist, My website 1, my website 2 etc?

Currently I am (ab)using several existing icons for other pages about myself, but not on the selected networks :)
At least make the labels/alt texts configurable, also for the following aspects.

One thing I am not sure of and maybe you can think about this:
    - how can you differentiate these rows from many other ‘Share this’ plugins?
    - How will people know that the Twitter/digg button goes to my profile and will not Tweet/Digg this post?

It would be great if an optional header/text could be added on top/bottom to assist with this (‘About me:’, ‘Me:’ ‘my pages’ etc).

Oh and while I am at it: an option to have the bar horizontally (up or down) would be nice as well :)

    Thanks in advance,
    Cheers, Harry

Very nice plugin, but I got an error, if I upgrade to the newest version. On the setting page appears the following message:
    “An unknown error occured”
    WP vers. 2.8.4
    Any solution?

  9. Micha says:

Wunderful plugin, works fine. Could you please add Ipernity.com (photo sharing side)?

  10. Alexander Leidinger says:

A nice plugin, but I miss items for ICQ and jabber (xmpp) and like one of the other posters an Amazon one.

It would also be nice if you could provide examples how an URL should look like (theoretically it can be everything, but if people really want to put “the canonical URL” there, it would help a lot) and maybe also add the icons on the settings page.

  11. Knut says:

    Hey Tejaswini,

yeah I think so that I’ll be here more often in the future :)

As Micha mentioned to add Ipernity there is a similar adding request by me too: Could you add also the 23hq.com photo sharing site in the next release planned? :D

    Cheers, Knut

  12. Joe Burnham says:

I’m having issues with Goodreads. I put in my profile and it rejects it. Does it not accept author profiles or the vanity urls? Any suggestions?

  13. Joe Burnham says:

I was having issues with Goodreads specifically, although, now that I look at it, I’m realizing that Goodreads isn’t there and I was having issues with a different module. So, let me change this and request the addition of Goodreads! :)

  14. It was a great script sir. I learn a new function here, that is trigger_error() function. This script would help me much if i forgot which wordpress function i’ve ever modified using add_filter().

    Thank you so much sir..

  15. KAylee says:

    GREAT pluggin i love it!
when you do the next one a little childish i know but could you put neopets in it please! :)

  16. Tinh says:

It is excellent one and I have just installed it on my blog too. Thanks

  17. david says:

@ everyone using wp-supercache, in the preferences, you can select an option that disables caching for logged in users. that means YOU will always see an updated page and not a cache. this is important for installing plugins like this one.

thanks for the plugin … and if you want some suggestions, i recommend adding googlewave profiles (if that’s possible).

it’d also be good if you can pre-enter the code needed for profiles. so instead of entering “http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidsmeaton” a user would only need to enter their username. this would save some time and guessing.

this is a great plugin. kudos for all the hard work.

    cheers

    • @david Thanks a lot for sharing this useful information and feedback. We will definitely try to include Google Waves profile in our next release. Thanks again for the compliments.

  18. tomoffel says:

Hey, great plugin! :D thanks for sharing and creating!

how about adding now icons? Like deviantart, sytemprofiles, meinVZ/studiVZ, xfire, and maybe some own icons? :)

    thank you! :)

    • Tejaswini says:

@tomoffel Ya, definitely, I have got some more suggestions for the new social profiles, and what I think is adding some option to allow the blogger to put his/her own social profiles along with the default ones is the best way, that I would be definitely be doing in the next upgrade of Smooth Slider. Yours is the prefect suggestion, thanks for your compliments and posting this valuable input.

  19. tomoffel says:

glad I could give some useful input to you :) I will wait for the next update/release! :)

    Thank you!

Take care and greetings from Germany! :)

  20. Terry says:

tripit.com would be a great addition, I think…love the plug in! I’m getting lots of good compliments!!

  21. Terry says:

oh, and Dailyburn.com. That one would also be great…plus the icon would look nifty.

  22. Frank says:

Hi, love the profiles. How about a Google Wave link?

  23. vietnamese says:

Thanks for this nice plugin . I have been searching it for hours

  24. ritchie says:

Hi, thx for this great plugin – an inintrusive and smart way to link to one’s social media profiles, just what I was looking for.

I have one problem though – installed Cute-Profiles on my German blog, the Icons show up in Chrome and Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox (current version). Link:
    http://blog.datenschmutz.net

I tried tweaking the css class with a z-index, but that didn’t change anything; the layer is shown in the source code, but not rendered; do you have any idea about the reason for this? thx in advance,
    ritchie

    • Hi ritchie, Thanks for using Cute Profiles. Regarding Firefox issue, the problem is with .sheet-body class. Remove the css .sheet-body {z-index: 0px} in your theme stylesheet, cute profile will start appearing on firefox.
Please let us know in case of any issue.

  25. ritchie says:

PS: forgot to check the “notification box”; srry

  26. Janie Coffey says:

Hi, great and useful plug-in. For future release consideration I’d like to ditto the above for Posterpous, Google Wave and add Brightkite and Foursquare. Thanks so much for the hard work.

    Janie

  27. James says:

Thanks for a nifty plug-in. Works great, looks great!

  28. I love this plug-in. I had seen it on a few sites and had to use my Firebug to figure out what it was called. I also see you developed Instant Weekly Round-Up which I have also fallen in love with over the past few weeks.

The only thing I wasn’t exactly able to figure out is what is to be entered into the Skype field in order for it to re-direct properly to Skype? Right now I have it as skype: username and that automatically wants to initate a call to the person (which overall, I guess is fine).

    • Hi Michelle,
Thanks for your precious words. I am glad that you liked our plugin Cute Profiles and Instant Weekly Roundup. You may also try Smooth Slider which is really effective in terms of SEO and traffic building thru featured content.

For Skype box, you are entering the correct value because we created in such a way that whenever a visitors will hit that, It will initiate the call. We will enhance the code in next version to show the Skype ID on hover.
Thanks for your feedback and input.

      • Sanjeev – thanks for the reply! I am going to try Smooth Slider; however, you do have me curious now…how does it help in terms of SEO?

Glad to know I did enter the Skype info correctly. :-)

        Michelle @mmangen

        • Hi Michelle,

Smooth Slider is very much helpful in SEO as your featured posts gets a link (in-links) from home page which is always beneficial. Smooth Slider is very well optimized for search engines with H1-H2 tags. Featured posts thru Smooth Slider are easily visible to visitors and then they share those posts on different social media thru which you gets back-links from different places. In that way as well it is helpful in SEO.

Let me know in case of any query/concern related to Smooth Slider or any other stuff related to Wordpress.

  29. Mohammad says:

    Hi,

I haven’t checked out the plugin yet, but looking at the plugin settings page, this came to me mind:
It would be nice to be able to enter custom profiles such as a profile and icon for a specified page in our website such as services/products etc. This way it would also pose as a vertically scrolling dashboard.

  30. Jan says:

Hi, thank you for this great plugin :-)

Do you still add new profile-services although you’ll add custom profiles? If you still add new profiles to your plugin, could you please take http://corkd.com into account?
