PayPal India New Fees Structure, No Free Receive Payments

PayPal India users were facing issues with PayPal withdrawal and personal payments, where finally local banks withdrawal is working fine but a new problem has come which is the latest fees structure specially designed for Indian users. If your account is in PayPal India then you will be paying fees for receiving payments even on your personal account. Previously the fee was taken in case of Premier account only but now they have changed the structure and taking huge fees on received payments.

Previously the fees structure was different for personal and premier accounts but now PayPal India has released the new fees structure with a common structure for both type of accounts. We have attached below the previous and the latest fees structure released by PayPal India.

As you can see in above comparison, Receive Payments section was free for “Personal Accounts” users but now in new structure, PayPal is taking a fee of 3.9% + $0.30 USD from any type of account. That means you will have to pay transaction charges for receiving the payments. These changes occurred after RBI’s policy changes and Government of India’s restriction on PayPal operation. Any update from PayPal India is awaited on the new structure of transaction fees but you will have to change your service charges to reduce the effect of this new structure.

Type “sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager wmctrl” on text terminal to install Compiz
Go to “System ==> Preferences ==> CompizConfig”
Select Commands and paste the following

Select “Edge Binding” Option tab and set following,

Run Command 0 – Set To Left
Run Command 1 – Set To Right
Run Command 2 – Set To Top

Set “Edge Trigger Delay” around 400 – 500 by dragging the slider

PayPal Purpose Codes to Withdraw Money to Local Banks in India

In previous update, PayPal Asia Operation had told us that Indian PayPal users will have to use “Exporter ID” to get the amount into their local banks and there were speculations hat the ID is nothing but Importer Exporter Code (IEC) but today’s update has clarified the issue that the new field has nothing to do with “Exporter ID” but that is a “Purpose Code”. Purpose Code is a simple code defined for PayPal to tell bank authorities about the reason of withdrawal.

According to the Purpose Codes published by PayPal, If you are a blogger and want to withdraw money from your PayPal account then you should use “P0805” as purpose code at the time of withdrawal. Below attached is the complete list of purpose codes for different purposes of withdrawal.

Currently there is no purpose code provided for donations and personal payments because these type of payments are still suspended to and from India. You can start withdrawing your PayPal money from 3’rd March 2010 using appropriate Purpose Code from above list.

PayPal India Money Withdrawal to Local Bank May Resume from 3’rd March

According to the latest update from PayPal Asia Operations, the suspended money withdrawal in local banks of India may resume from 3’rd March 2010. It is now more than a month since Indian publishers, exporters, service providers, freelancers etc. are facing the problem of money withdrawal to their local bank in India from PayPal. But yesterday, PayPal sent an email with updates on PayPal money withdrawal in local banks, and now it seems that the withdrawal to local bank will resume from 3’rd March.

Here is the excerpt from the PayPal email where you can see that the PayPal team will provide more information on 1’st March i.e. Monday on the new field of “Exporter ID” which is now required for local bank withdrawal,

Today, we are happy to announce that the RBI has allowed us
to continue local bank withdrawals for settlements for exports
of goods and services.  We are currently making changes to
comply with Indian regulations for settlements for exports of
goods and services, and we anticipate that, as of Wednesday,
March 3rd, customers will be able to use our
bank withdrawal service.  

As part of the changes, you will be required to fill out a
new field entitled 'Export Code' when you request a withdrawal.
This information is required under the current laws of India in
order to identify the nature of cross-border merchant transactions.  

On Monday, March 1st, we will be back in touch with specific
instructions on how you can move your money into your bank account.

As per the settlement between RBI and PayPal, now onwards PayPal will ask you the “Exporter ID” at the time of withdrawal. This exporter ID is also known as IEC (Importer Exporter Code) which is issues by the regional office of Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). Amit Agarwal has published a handy information about the procedure to get IEC Number or Exporter ID.

Regarding the Personal Payments suspension, PayPal team updated that they are working on it to get some required approvals from RBI. Till that time the personal payments to and from PayPal India will be suspended. We talked to some people and found that it takes nearly 4 – 6 months to get the approval for the same.

Anyways, I hope that the withdrawal option thru Check will not ask to “Exporter ID” and you can withdraw your current amount on PayPal thru that. IEC number (Exporter ID) takes around 7 – 10 days to come after the documents and form submission. If you want to know more about IEC and Exporter ID then search for DGFT Office, Your Location and try to find the nearest regional office and ask them about the procedure.

Update: PayPal India has resumed the local banks withdrawal. You just need to select “Purpose Code” while withdrawing money in local banks.

More Spam Protection for PhpBB Forums by Adding Extra Fields

PhpBB is one of the most used forum platform because of the open source nature. Spam is the main concern for PhpBB administrator because there are lot many bots running on the web and some of them are capable to breach the CAPTCHA code as well. If you are also getting spam even after using CAPTCHA on the registration form, then you should read this article where I have explained a simple way of adding some more fields on the registration form so that bots will have to be customized for your site (not feasible for bots user) to breach the same.

By default, registration form of PhpBB has the following fields to fill up,

Username
Email Address
Confirm Email Address
Password
Confirm Password
Language
Time Zone
Confirmation Code (CAPTCHA)

Most of the bots are made to fill up the above fields and break the CAPTCHA as well. If they do so, they can enter in your forum and start spamming the same.

To make your forum more safe, you can add some more fields on the registration page of your forum. This new field will work as a hurdle for the bots and their request for registration will get rejected because of the same.

How to Make a New Field on Registration Page

Login to “Administrative Control Panel” of your forum with Admin ID
Go to “Users and Groups” tab
On left panel, under “Users” section; click on “Custom Profile Fields”
Select type of the field as “Dropdown” and click on “Create New Field”
Type any name (without spaces) in the “Field Identification” box, this will be the name of the field for reference
Set “Yes” for the field Publicly display profile field
Set “Display on registration screen”
Set “Required field”
Give a proper name to the field. This name will appear on the registration page
Write a short description (hint for users)
Under Entries, write the options you want to show the users to select from. These entries will appear in the dropdown

Here is the screenshot of my forum where I have created a new profile field where normal users will have select “No” in Anti-Spam field to complete the registration. By default, it will appear as “Yes” and that’s why bots will not be able to make registration on this forum.

In your theme code or plugin code, if you know the user name or user login of the Wordpress user, you can easily obtain all the user information stored in Wordpress database using the below function.

$username is the variable in which you have the username or login name of the user.

How to access various user information fields

Remember that the output $userinfo is a ‘Object’ and not an array. I have put all the user fields you get by the execution of this function in the $userinfo object.

How To Change Permission Level of Amazon S3 Files and Buckets

Amazon S3 cloud hosting service is having a security feature of changing permission level for each bucket, folder and files. By using this feature, you can restrict the access of media files like videos, audios and images and you can also control the access to downloadable files hosted on Amazon S3 like PDF, Zipped Files etc.

Why Should You Restrict Access for Files

Reason 1: If you are going to use Signed URLs (Private URL feature) of Amazon S3 files then you will have to restrict the public access of files.

Reason 2: If you are not ready to share the files with other and still working on the next version of file then till that time you can restrict the access of the file.

How To Change Permission Level

Install Amazon S3 Organizer extension of Firefox
Add Your Amazon S3 account by providing Access Key and Secret Code
Right Click on a Bucket, Folder or File and select “Edit ACL”
There you can see 3 rows and 4 columns for changing the permission level of Read, Write and Full Control
Click on “Cross” mark to make the file accessible to the concerned category. There are three category for access; Public, Authorized and Owner
Public means open for everyone including simple visitor of your site. Authorized is for users having S3 account and finally Owner is the account holder who’s Amazon S3 account is used for hosting
