Password Recovery Options For A New Gmail Account

Once you have signed up and got a new Gmail account, I suggest to go thru your Gmail account password recovery options as this is a very important setting for you in case you forget your Gmail account password anytime in the future.

Go to your Google account settings by going to Google Homepage, on the top right corner you would find ‘My Account’ if you are signed in (to Sign in to your Google account, go to Google Homepage and on the top right corner click Sign in. Enter your username and password of your Gmail account and click Sign in).

After you click to My account, you enter to your account settings page.

You would get the below page with a facility to edit three type of password recovery options:-

As your email ID is your address of communication, most of the times very crucial, it is very essential that you should have the recovery options if you forget your password. If you forget your password anytime in the future, you need to go to Gmail password assistance page where you need to enter your Gmail username or Google account. If you have proper password recovery options set here in this setting, it would be so easy for you to get your password reset, so that you could again access your account without any hurdle.

So try to enter as many available options to you here on the recovery options setting.

1. Email

Enter your secondary email addresses here like if you have any on yahoo or your company or college domain email ID etc.

When you add/associate any new email ID with your Gmail account, you would get a verification mail in the Inbox of your newly added email account. You need to verify the addition by clicking the verification link sent by Google.

So, when you forget your Gmail password anytime in the future, and when you request for password recovery, Google would send you the password reset link on all these email IDs entered. It would be very easy to recover your Gmail password by clicking this link received on any of your secondary email ID submitted, provided you do not forget password for all your email accounts at one time!!

Also, when you associate some another email account with your Gmail account, then some Google features can be integrated with that email account also. Like you can see the the invitations sent to your non Gmail email account on your Gmail Google calendar and many more interesting things.

In this way you can associate and disassociate any other outside email ID with your Gmail account

2. SMS

As the name indicates, this recovery option enables you to get the password reset code as a text message on your mobile number entered here.

When you click on Add a mobile phone number, the form would expand as below:-

Select your country and enter your mobile number. Don’t forget to put a tick in the Use this phone number for password recovery via text message checkbox. It would help you when you forget your Gmail password as Google would send you the password reset code in the form of text message on your mobile number entered here.

3. Security question

You can change your security question or you can change your answer to the existing security question, in case you have forgot the previous one. This security question and its answer is extremely important in order to recover your forgotten password along with the other options, as in some cases you need to give the answer of your security question at the time of password reset.
