Integrate the free download manager with Google chrome or other browsers to accelerate the speed

free_download_manager If you are a Google Chrome user and don’t want to use Google Download manager provided inside the Chrome then go ahead and integrate the Free Download Manager with Chrome and other browsers to download and manage the file efficiently.

Here is why you should use download manager other than Google’s.

  • Once the connection drops, very difficult to resume the download
  • Lost the download in between
  • Like to have only one download manager for clean system

Free Download Manager is an absolutely free tool,  that’s why I am going to explain the integration of that only. Follow the below mentioned steps for integration,

Step 1: Download and Install the Free Download Manager

Step 2: In Free download manager, go to the Options / Setting tab.

Step 3: Click on monitoring under “Downloads” section

Step 4: Restart the Google Chrome browser.

You are done. Now if you start downloading any file, Download manager will ask you to do so using that application which will boost the download speed as well. Below is the screenshot of the Free Download Manager panel,

You can see that the download manager can be configured for Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera, Sea Monkey etc too.

    When I try to do this I get asked for the Chrome plugins directory. I don’t know where this is…

    1. Navigate to C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\.
    2. Look for Plugins folder. If do not exist, create one.
    3. Open FDM > Options > Settings > Monitoring > Checked Google Chrome.
    4. It will prompt you “Can’t locate plugins folder and asks to locate it manually.”. Click OK.
    5. Point to C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\Plugins\. Click OK.
    6. Restart Google Chrome and FDM.
