Google is the market leader in search engines with more than 65% market share in United States. That’s why it is their responsibility to make search results clean and spam free. As part of this initiative, Google is taking measure steps since last few weeks. First of all they rolled our Google Chrome extension to block or hide domains from search results. Then they released “Panda Update” aka “Farmer Update” to remove or degrade the pages from Content Farms on SERP. Now they are rolling out the “Chrome Extension Feature” for every browser by enabling everyone to have control on their keyword search results.

Google Chrome is growing rapidly but still is way behind Firefox and Internet Explorer. That’s why only having a Chrome extension was not enough for Google. That’s why they are coming up with the “block all domain name results” link on the SERP beside the “Cache” link. Once you will click on that link, results from that domain will not appear in future for your logged in Google ID. Yes, this control is a kind of personalized control where you can block or hide few domains from search results and even restore them from search settings.
When you will click on “block all domain name results”, it will ask for the confirmation. You will also see “Undo” button to undo the previous action. After confirmation from your side, that domain will stop appearing on Search Results performed on Google.
At the bottom of the Google SERP, you can see couple of links as “You blocked #no results”, “Show blocked results”, “Manage blocked sites”. You can choose the option as per your requirement and do the needful.
This new control is rolling out on Google.com and will work on Google Chrome 9+, Internet Explorer 8+, Firefox 3.5+ browsers. Google is expected to roll out the feature in other regions in next few months.
Important – As per the Google’s release note, this manual control or blocking of domains will not affect the search engine ranking of sites as this signal is not yet added in the algorithm. But they may analyze the data and take measures accordingly in future.
