Lot many Gmail users are complaining about the missing emails in Gmail Inbox, some of them are saying that all previous emails are deleted. Even Google has confirmed the issue of missing emails of Gmail through Apps Dashboard and it is said that some Gmail accounts are reset accidently. After hearing such reports about the webmail service like Gmail which is widely used for personal as well as business purposes, I think now its time to take and keep backup of important emails somewhere else as well to have another copy of the same.

There are lot two ways to take and keep the backup of Gmail Inbox, one is Online and other is Offline.

In case of Online backup, you need cloud services or other webmail to have a copy of your Gmail account. If you are a Hotmail user, you can export all your emails stored on Gmail to Hotmail using TrueSwitch. You can also choose to forward the future emails on Gmail to your Hotmail account.

Backupify is another service to securely backup your emails stored on Gmail for free. This service is available for free for up to 5 Gmail accounts.

For securely backup your future communication on Gmail, you can use the “Forwarding” options available in Gmail to forward future emails on any other email address. This option will send a copy of incoming emails to the assigned email address so that you can always have a copy of the same. You can find the forwarding option in Gmail on Settings page under “Forwarding / POP/IMAP” tab.

For Offline Backup, Outlook is the best solution where you can import all your emails from Gmail and store them on your desktop. Once you add an email account in Outlook, it start downloading all previous communications. You can achieve the same from other desktop email clients like Mozilla Thunderbird and many others available for free.
