Google has officially announced that hey are working on Google Chrome OS as a next project and probably by mid of next year, they will start distributing this OS with Netbooks. Yes, this is going to be a light weight OS for web addicts who spend around 80 – 90% of their time on computer using Internet .
Here is an excerpt from Google’s announcement,
Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we’re already talking to partners about the project, and we’ll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.
Google Chrome OS is going to be an open source OS which will be based on Chromium. There are some unofficial versions available on Internet which are nothing but a bundle of Google’s application like Picasa, Gmail, Chrome etc already installed on Suse Linux. Don’t go for them, they are 100% time wastage. Wait for sometime, Google will release Chrome OS for testing and inputs from Open Source Community.
