Gmail users get signature option on settings page to enable and add rich signature at the bottom of every email. By default, the signature appears at the bottom of the email even below the quoted text in replies.

The default signature placement is fine for new compose but I am sure many of us wants to have the signature above the quoted text i.e. just after the recent message in case of replies and forwards. There was an application in ‘Gmail Lab’ named “Signature Tweaks” to place the signature above the quoted text in replies and forwards, but now this lab application has graduated and become an option on settings page under ‘General’ tab. It means you do not need to enable a lab application but you can achieve the same by checking a box on the settings page. Here is how the option is placed on Gmail Settings.

Gmail Signature

Go to the Gmail Settings page and open General Tab. In Signature option, you can see a new check-box available just below the signature box with text as “Insert this signature before quoted text in replies and remove the “–” line that precedes it”. If you check this box, it does the same thing that “Signature Tweaks” lab application used to do.

What about Google Apps users?

Enable Labs in Google Apps

Google Apps users having email IDs of self hosted domains on Google Apps were used to wait for the administrator to enable “Labs” for every user from the dashboard so that they can enable “Signature Tweaks”. Now they are also having the check-box below the signature box to enable signature just above the quoted text in replies and forwards. So no need to wait for labs feature, one can use this option on settings page to place the signature above the quoted text.
