Opera web browser has added free VPN service inside the browser to open restricted sites without revealing your information. In case some sites are restricted in your area e.g. YouTube and Facebook are banned in few Asian countries or if you want to browse website anonymously, this free VPN service inside Opera is a great feature for you.

Currently Opera is having around 2% of global browser market share whereas Google Chrome is having more than 60%. But with such innovative feature, it is expected that Opera will get more market share in emerging markets in Asia and Africa. With the inbuilt Ad blocker, Opera has already been favorite among the community and the Opera mini and turbo are amazing features to open websites faster on mobile and desktop respectively. How to Use Free VPN in Opera Browser

Well, currently the feature is available in Opera Developer version only. You can download and install on Windows, Mac or Linux systems using the download links mentioned at the bottom of the article.

Once downloaded, install it on your system. Now open the Settings ==> Privacy and security page. There you will see an option as VPN. You need to check the box “Enable VPN” to get the VPN feature enabled. Once enabled, you will see a VPN button on address bar (beside the http or https). Click on the VPN button to select the VPN connection and country. Currently there are only 3 counties listed under VPN on Opera,

  • Canada
  • Germany
  • United States

It means, you can use any of these countries IP address to access the restricted sites.

Opera is using its own SurfEasy™ service to provide the free VPN feature. If using on any other browser, this service is priced at around $6.50 per month but Opera is providing it free of cost on its own browser. As per the company’s statement, it seems that the free VPN feature will come soon in the stable version and will remain free for lifetime.
