google-adsense-logo If a website owner don’t want to show his competitors advertisements on his website or blog because of the obvious reasons then he can prevent those ads by using Adsense filters. It is also useful when you don’t want to have low paying ads from Adsense on your blog.

To use the Adsense Filters, login to your Adsense account and click on “AdSense setup” tab. There you will see “Competitive Ad Filter” tab where you will have to enter the URL of your competitor who has started AdWords campaign for his company. There are two ways to provide the URL to be banned on your website,

  1. Provide the advertisement destination URL and save the changes. Never use your own website to check the destination of an Ad as it is a violation of Google AdSense Policy. Use other’s website from same category where that particular ad appears to check the final destination i.e. Ads owner website’s URL.
  2. If you don’t want to check the destination URL or you want to block only a particular advertisement from your competitor, then provide the URL of the advertisement over “Competitive Ad Filter” box.

There is a concept of broad and specific URL. When you want to block only the advertisement of the forum section of your competitor’s website, then provide the destination URL as www.forum.domainname.com, this way you can block a specific part of advertisement from the competitor. But if you provide the URL as domainname.com, then it will cover all the sub-domains and pages from competitor’s website and will not show any of the Ad from his AdWords account.

Go ahead and start filtering your AdSense Ads to show specific advertisement to your visitors. We have already discussed other ways to optimize AdSense to increase revenue.
