Now a days Shopping malls, Cafes, Hotels, Conference halls are having Wi-Fi hotspot where people can bring their wireless devices like smartphone, laptop or tablet and browse the web conveniently. Do you want to have similar Wi-Fi hotspot at your home or personal office? Here is how you can create such zone without investing much.

When you are on move, you will use 3G or 4G connections provided by the mobile service providers. But at home or personal office I would recommend to have wired connection like Broadband as you will get more speed, reliable connection at cheaper price. If you are having 3G connection on your phone, you can share that by tethering but you will have to pay (in some cases) extra for the same. Now I would tell you how you can use the wired connection and create Wi-Fi zone at your home to have 24×7 Internet connection everywhere inside your home or even in lawn/garden.

To create a Wi-Fi zone, you need a Wireless Router. You can buy a good Wireless router for around $50 to $70. Now at that much investment, you can have Wi-Fi Internet at every point inside your home or personal office. Once you have the router, Broadband or DSL connection, Modem (in case of Broadband connection), a desktop or laptop and one or more Wireless devices (for testing).

You also need couple of LAN cable (of around 1 meter in size) for internal connection.

How to setup Wireless Router to connect to Internet

[ad id=’7′ style=’float:left;margin:10px 10px 10px 0′] If you are having broadband connection through telephone line, the ADSL point will come to your Broadband modem provided by the service provider. Now connect the modem with Router with LAN cable. Insert the LAN cable point in Router as input.

Now its time to connect your computer to Router. Connect another LAN cable to Router (Output) and the other point to PC. Switch ON both devices (modem and router) and let the connection become stable. Now you can setup the connection by adding your credentials (username and password) in the Router setup.

To do that, type 192.168.1.1 on the address bar of the browser on your computer. A new window will open asking username and password of the router. Enter the ID and password provided with the Router. You can find the ID and password in the printed manual of the router. Once you are in, you need to enter the ID and Password of your broadband account.

I am using Linksys Wireless Router and here is the screenshot of Linksys setup panel. You can see the ID and password boxes in the setup panel.

Now you need to find the Wireless section in your Router setup. There you can provide the name of your Wi-Fi zone. For example, ehome. You can also set a password to protect any misuse of your Wi-Fi zone. That will make your Wi-Fi area more secured and no one can access your Wi-Fi connection or Wi-Fi facility without your permission. To do that, select WAP2 security in the Wireless security mode and provided a password for that.

You can set the option to auto connect the broadband connection. As now router is having your ID and password, you don’t need to enter the same every time.

As the Wireless Router is now connected to the broadband connection, your just need to search for Wi-Fi zone on your Wireless device like Smartphone or Tablet or laptop. Select the Wi-Fi zone found on your device and enter the WPA2 password provided by you at the time of Router Wireless setting.

That’s it. Now you will see your device well connected and even that can also remember the connection details like Wi-Fi zone name and password. That means, whenever your will come to home and enable the Wi-Fi on the Wireless device, it will get connected to your home Wi-Fi (ehome) and you will be able to browse Internet instantly.

In case of DSL connections where you get LAN type cable connection to your home, you just need to insert the incoming connection to the router and then connect another cable (outgoing) from router to your computer. Rest like Wireless setup and ID, password details entering will be same as above.

Note: There are different type of Wireless Routers available in the market. For home usage, I would suggest to go for Wireless-G type Linksys router where you will get Wireless signal in up to 150 ft area from the router. Here is a comparison chart of different Linksys Router types,
